Segway introduces ultra-fast electric step

Micromobility is swapping urban territory for track days, if we are to believe Segway. The electric scooter has launched the KickScooter GT2, capable of accelerating to 50 km/h in 4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 70 km/h in a particular ‘Track’ setting.  White collars speeding around in suits and helmets around closed circuits? So it seems because these speeds are illegal for steps on public roads in many countries.

The KickScooter is the fastest e-step in Segway’s range and belongs to the premium category. Compared to regular battery-driven steps, the platform sits on 11-inch wheels, with a larger profile and a special jelly-like compound for the tires. According to Segway, the latter is self-healing, making sure you avoid tire puncture whilst speeding around at 70 km/h.

Dial back power

The big wheels are also a technical requirement to house the bigger electric motors, which can deliver up to 3,000W with a choice of one or two-wheel drive. Through a smartphone app, you can dial that power back. The scooter weighs a hefty 52 kilograms and also has a unique suspension and a cool transparent display for the read-out of speed, battery charge, driving mode, and so on.

With a range of 90 kilometres, one could argue that this mobility solution is more about intercity than intra-city transportation. Unfortunately, prices are not yet announced, while the GT2 is currently only featured on the UK site for Europe.
