Meet the winners of the 2018 Fleet Europe Awards

The Fleet Europe Awards were presented in the Catalunya Congress Centre in Barcelona on 28 November at the end of another successful edition of the three-day Fleet Europe Summit.

The Fleet Europe Awards recognise outstanding achievements by fleet managers, suppliers and start-ups. The Awards and the Summit were attended by over 1,000 international fleet and mobility professionals from across the globe.

Global Fleet Manager of the Year

For the second time, the ceremony included an award for the Global Fleet Manager of the Year. This award was presented by Stefan Herbert, Head of International Corporate Sales, Mercedes-Benz to Almy Sousa Magalhaes (pictured left), Global Procurement Executive Fleet, E-Commerce and Distribution, Philip Morris International.

Mr Magalhaes leads a cost-efficient programme across 82 countries that shows excellent results in terms of driver safety and paves the way for the transformation towards new powertrains and an integrated mobility management. He manages a car fleet of 22,930 worldwide.

The runner-up for Global Fleet Manager of the Year is Franz Fehlner, Global Category Leader Fleet Management & Services, Allianz Technology. He received his award from Dr Jörg Löffler, CEO, Fleet Logistics.

European Fleet Manager of the Year

The coveted title of European Fleet Manager of the Year was awarded to Heiko Groesch (pictured right), Manager Fleet EMEA, Goodyear Dunlop Tyres by Mark Howlett, Fleet Sales Manager, Kia Motors Europe.

The jury was impressed by his deep insight in all cost elements as Mr Groesch has implemented a strict policy focusing on process and cost optimisation, partly through a multibidding approach. Goodyear Dunlop operates a global fleet of 6,508 vehicles (2,573 in EMEA).

The runner-up for the European Fleet Manager of the Year is David Omodei, Senior Procurement Engagement Manager Fleet, Microsoft, whose prize was presented by Vinzenz Pflanz, Senior Vice President Sales, Sixt SE.

International Fleet Mobility Award

The International Fleet Mobility Award goes to a company that has successfully implemented a green project or an initiative in efficient alternative mobility solutions. This year, the jury honoured Luxottica for its strong centralised approach for a 2000-strong global fleet operating across various continents and in which mobility solutions are becoming increasingly relevant, including a smart car-sharing app and an e-shuttle service for the company’s China subsidiary.

The award was presented to Laura Gobbis, Travel and Fleet Procurement Manager, Luxottica by Ralf Kostrewa, Head of Volkswagen Group Fleet Sales International.

International Fleet Safety Award

The International Fleet Safety Award celebrates a company that has successfully implemented a driver safety programme. This year’s award goes to Ingersoll Rand, represented by Christine Siroux, Travel & Fleet Manager EMEA. Ms Siroux received her award from Lior Sethon, VP & Deputy General Manager for the Aftermarket Division, Mobileye, an Intel Company.

Ingersoll Rand introduced a yearly 100 Days of Safety programme that increases driver safety awareness through various initiatives including a safety app for drivers, weekly messages and driver training sessions. Ingersoll Rand has a global fleet of 9,097 vehicles, 2,197 of which in the EMEA region.

International Fleet Innovation Award

This award is presented to a company that has set up a particularly innovative programme in terms of car policy, implementation, green approach, safety, mobility or other related aspects.

Dirk Schlimm, Executive Vice President, Geotab, handed this award to IBM, represented by Ferenc Hegedus, Global Category Lead, Car Lease, Rental and Ground Transportation.

The jury was impressed by IBM’s innovative approach in fleet management process efficiency and cost monitoring, in particular the Pricing IQ tool. This tool provides continued rate competitiveness, enhanced negotiation capabilities and proactive reactions. IBM operates a global fleet of 20,275 vehicles.

International Car Remarketing Award

The International Car Remarketing Award was awarded to BCA with 1Europe Transport, represented by Bertrand De Techtermann, EU Operations Director, who received his prize from Marcel De Rycker, Managing Director, IWS.

1Europe Transport is an all-in-one transport service for used cars exported from one EU country to another, enabling a much shorter lead time than conventional transport and logistics models and therefore also much faster rotation which increases productivity.

International Fleet Hall of Fame

At the Fleet Europe Awards ceremony, Simon Dransfield, General Manager Fleet & Business Europe, Jaguar Land Rover, was inducted into the International Fleet Hall of Fame. His prize was presented by Tim Albertsen, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, ALD Automotive for the innovative mobility services Mr Dransfield has introduced at Jaguar Land Rover, with a strong customer focus. His efforts have contributed to unprecedented sales growth, placing Jaguar Land Rover firmly on the fleet map.

International Fleet Industry Award

The three prizes of the International Fleet Industry Award were presented by Bertrand Donck, CEO, Macadam. The first prize was taken home by Athlon with ChangeMyCar, the “Tinder of car leasing”. The second prize went to LeasePlan with LeasePlan Electric Programme and the third to ALD with ALD Car Sharing.

Smart Mobility Start-Up of the Year

The first prize of the Smart Mobility Start-Up of the Year Award was presented to Fixico by Amar Gupta, VP Sales and Strategic Alliances, AutoFacets. Erik Maes, General Manager, Renta Solutions handed the second prize to AppyParking and the third prize was given to Bestmile by Stuart Donnelly, Senior Director Group International Sales Northern Europe and USA, Sixt SE.
