Cargo bike wins business competition

The French bicycle company, Douze Cycles, has won Transport for London’s first Cargo Bike competition.

Douze’s electric-powered G4e beat rivals from Harry vs Larry, Ridgeback, Tern, Bicicapace and Urban Arrow to win the Best Cargo Bike - Business category, impressing the judges with its manoeuvrability and comfort.

Cargo bikes are increasingly seen as one of the solutions for last mile deliveries, helping to minimise congestion and cut pollution in urban centres.

Christina Calderato, Transport for London’s Head of Transport Strategy and Planning, said:“Switching trips from motorised vehicles to cargo bikes on London's roads is essential if we are to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing the capital. Anyone choosing to ride a cargo bike rather than going by car or van is directly contributing to cleaning up the air we breathe.”

The G4e has a carrying capacity of 270 litres and is powered by a Brose electric motor to assist the efforts of the rider. The motor is capable of speeds of up to 25kmh, and is powered by lithium-ion graphene batteries.

Cable steering allows the fork of the bicycle to rotate by up to 75 degrees to the left and right, making it easy to manoeuvre the bike through tight city streets.

Douze G4e prices start at €4,799.

The judges of the competition also commended Bicicapace Justlong and Bakfiets Short in the business category.
