Meet the SunRider, a self-charging solar cargo e-bike

Cargo bikes are a common sight in most cities today, many of them assisted by a battery-powered electric motor. The SunRider brings a new twist to cargo bikes, featuring solar panels to charge the battery.

The SunRider is a product of the Dutch company Need The Globe, who wanted to develop a bike compliant with Green Deal Zero Emission Urban Logistics.

The cargo bike is powered by a 250W hub motor with a 1.6kWh swappable battery and it can fit 1m3 Euro pallets and up to 150kg of cargo. It has three solar panels, which the company claims should be enough to reduce CO2 emissions by 95% compared to a diesel-fuelled delivery van and by 50% compared to traditional cargo e-bikes on the market.
