5,100 e-bikes for new Stockholm bike sharing service

The city of Stockholm is introducing a new electric bike sharing service to provide sustainable, zero emission transport for its citizens and tourists.

The service will be run by micro-mobility company CityBike Global, which already operates bike sharing schemes in partnership with local authorities in Helsinki, Paris and Lima. CityBike Global is part of Spain’s Moventia Group.

It will source more than 5,100 smart e-bikes, made from recycled aluminium and powered by swappable batteries, from the Italian manufacturer VAIMOO, which provides bikes to sharing schemes in Copenhagen, Rotterdam and Cambridge. The bikes will be available at docking stations 24 hours a day, all year round, and are equipped with telematics systems to identify their locations, state of battery charge and any mechanical problems.
