Karhoo wins European Startup Gold Prize
Beating more than 500 other mobility startups, Karhoo has won the prestigious European Startup Gold Prize for mobility.
Founded just two years ago, London-based Karhoo is a ride-hailing marketplace that brings together licensed taxi and private-hire fleets from around the world on an electronic platform which can integrate with other travel and leisure operators’ platforms and apps.
Karhoo already offers 1.8 million vehicles across six continents, enabling travellers everywhere to call a cab immediately or book transport up to a year ahead. Ultimately, the company wants to become the largest taxi and private-hire platform in the world.
The event (pictured: the award being handed to Karhoo execs) took place on Thursday at the European Parliament in Brussels. Karhoo pitched to a jury of mobility influencers and thought leaders in front of an audience of European leaders, CEOs and investors.
In total, four winners were selected, on the strength of their management team, their social impact, level of innovation and speed of execution. Karhoo was judged to be the breakthrough innovation with the most potential to reshape Europe’s mobility landscape.
The European Startup Prize for Mobility is a joint venture by the European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee, Boston Consulting Group and Via ID. It is an accelerator for startups developing sustainable mobility innovations.
Thanks to its win, Karhoo will receive mentoring by the Boston Consulting Group and be invited to pitch at major tech events throughout Europe.
