Volkswagen enters partnership with MILES Mobility
Volkswagen has announced a partnership with MILES Mobility to accelerate expansion of its car sharing portfolio.
Under the partnership, MILES Mobility has acquired UMI Urban Mobility International GmbH from Volkswagen Passenger Cars and the WeShare car-sharing business, both to be added to its portfolio.
The next step in the partnership involves MILES' order of more than 10,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from Audi, Seat/Cupra and Volkswagen Passenger Car brands. The deliveries are to start in 2023, which will increase the presence of Volkswagen in the growing new mobility services.
Thus, Volkswagen has many goals through the new partnership:
- Enabling mobility services such as car subscriptions and car sharing for customers,
- Expanding the reach of car sharing to a new spectrum of customers,
- Reaching out to more customers in Germany and Europe.
MILES is currently available in eight cities in Germany and also established operations in Brussels and Ghent in 2022. MILES will be upgrading its fleet with all-electric models of the Volkswagen Group, while WeShare currently owns 2,000 VW ID.3 and ID.4 vehicles in Berling and Hamburg, serving over 200,000 customers.
In future, MILES' fleet will be totally electrified, which currently holds 9,000 vehicles, almost 70% supplied by the Volkswagen Group.
