“We need action, not just words”
Mobility solutions company SIXT is the sponsor of the European Fleet & Mobility Manager of the Year category at the 2021 Fleet Europe Awards. This year’s award ceremony will take place in Brussels on November 10th, following the Fleet Europe Summit. Stuart Donnelly, SENIOR DIRECTOR INTERNATIONAL SALES (NORTHERN EUROPE/US) at SIXT shared his views on how mobility is evolving, post-pandemic.

1. How do you see the trend from Fleet to Mobility evolve in Europe, post-pandemic?
I expect the trend to accelerate but the question about the speed will depend on the actions taken by the corporates seeking that evolution. Naturally, working-from-home and digital transformation has been turbocharged due to the pandemic and as such employees and employers will be questioning whether it makes sense to have a car (or the same car) for 365 days of the year? This may no longer be the case and a move to mobility might be a better solution for both.
2. What is your advice to corporate fleets wanting to transform from Fleet to Mobility with regard to sourcing and procurement?
It is now more important than ever that fleets seriously focus on utilisation. This encompasses a full needs analysis of who in the organisation needs or wants a car. It should take into consideration sustainability, BIK (benefit-in-kind) and consolidate travel and fleet spend to determine if a car - or other form of mobility - should be offered. Then it’s a case or working out how best to package this as part of the benefits programme.
3. What are you looking forward to, or do you hope to see, in terms of focus elements from the finalists of this year’s Fleet Europe Awards?
Ideally, I would like to see more action and execution of the transition from fleet to mobility and not just results driven by a legislative motivation. Sustainable, shared mobility is definitely the future and will be a great help in the years ahead with the dearth of cars due to the global chip shortage, but action (and not just words) is required if we are going to realise this vision.
