Europe’s first Optimised EV Charging System Launched

ViaVan and Shell optimised charging system in Amsterdam

On-demand mobility company ViaVan and Shell have teamed up to launch Europe’s first, all-electric ride-sharing service with optimised charging.

Ambitious environmental aims

The first-of-its-kind service was launched in the Dutch capital Amsterdam, a city that aims to achieve zero-emission transport by 2025.

ViaVan has launched several EV ride-sharing services throughout Europe. This is the first to use Shell’s technology and form a proving ground for optimising the performance of electric fleets when optimised routing to available chargers is deployed.

Intelligent EV operating system

ViaVan has developed a technology, based on a powerful EV routing algorithm. The system maximises battery utilisation and EV range. In this case, it monitors the real-time battery status of ViaVan’s fleet, estimates the charging task and routes vehicles to Shell charging stations.

Passengers book shared rides using the eVia request option on the ViaVan app. Furthermore, the EV operating system enables municipalities to better control on-demand grid usage across the city, which allows better transport planning.
