Preparing the New Normal: Join the Workshop with focus on Employee Concerns

In order to help fleet managers, HR professionals and facilities managers anticipate the changed employee expectations due to COVID-19, Fleet Europe’s Smart Mobility Institute is organising the first Employee Focus workshop for corporate buyers on 15 and 20 May to address new Employee requirements. You can register here.

New normal
It goes without saying that the Coronavirus crisis has a huge impact on fleet and mobility community. The importance of taking the correct tactical and strategic measures to counter – or soften – the effects of the on your organisation goes beyond a return to a previous status quo. The entire fleet community will have to find a new balance, with employees returning to the work floor with new expectations, also with regard to mobility.

As the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic not only economic, but also behavioral, various analysists expects that it will lead to a “new normal”. In the fleet community this “new normal” comes with new opportunities: digitisation, mobility, and policy review.

It’s obvious that our industry and community is already learning from the current situation. Home office is perhaps the most obvious example; most employers did not have policies or processes in place to cater for people working exclusively from home and a variety of tools and support had to be put in place in a rush. Also, the true need for mobility is now for the first time truly quantifiable. Savings potential is generated by answering the questions: do we really need this many cars? Do we need to use our fleet vehicles like we do today? Are there better alternatives?

The voice of the employee
A major need for change will, in addition, come directly from the employees. They have experienced an entirely different way of working and will come back to the office with new, or at least changed expectations.

These new requirements can be grouped under the “wellness” denominator and require vision, policy and a new supply chain. Rather than being threats to the job of the fleet manager, these findings must be read as opportunities that can both satisfy the need for savings and address the concerns of the employees. Fleet managers, being at the intersection of procurement, facilities and HR, are ideally positioned to play an important role in this new dimension.
