MaaS Global wins European Startup Prize

MaaS Global has won the European Startup Prize for Mobility, sponsored by Europcar Group. The Finnish mobility startup beat nine other finalists for the prize, a public-private initiative aimed at promoting green and connected mobility. It rewards the most innovative European startup company in the mobility sector by supporting their international development.

MaaS Global does what its name promises: it offers Mobility as a Service. Via one simple app called Whim, users can choose from a range of mobility solutions, including taxis, cars, bikes, public transport and more. They can opt for a flat-fee subscription, or pay as they go. The company prides itself on having built “the world's first mobility ecosystem”.

“Sponsoring this Prize is important for Europcar, as e are constantly looking at new ideas in order to propose more mobility solutions to our customers”, says Sheila Struyck, Managing Director of Europcar's New Mobility Business Unit.

Europcar runs Europcar Lab, an innovation unit designed to nurture new ideas and acquire minority or majority stakes in innovative businesses (previous acquisitions include Ubeeqo, E-Car Club, Brunel, BlueMove and SnappCar).

All ten finalists will be taken on a tour of major European cities (including Berlin, Paris, Copenhagen and Barcelona), meeting with decision-makers, investors and experts.
