Maastricht to introduce low emission zone

From 2019 onwards, the Dutch city of Maastricht will have a low emission zone.

Diesel cars dating from before 2006 and petrol cars from before 1990 will be banned from entry into the city. The new rules will apply to cars, vans and lorries. The city council announced it is looking into ways of banning polluting mopeds and motorbikes as well.

With this move, Maastricht is stepping into the footsteps of 70 German cities. Utrecht, Rotterdam and Arnhem already have low emission zones in the Netherlands.
