Luxembourg minister proposes transnational taxation

During a trip to Saarland, Luxembourg Minister of Economy Etienne Schneider launched the proposal of creating a transnational fiscal solution that would meet the challenges of mobility in the Grand Duchy and relieve commuter traffic to Luxembourg.

The proposal consists in the taxation of Luxembourg employees opting for telework from their home according to Luxembourg taxation rules, regardless of their country of residence. Schneider said that "Luxembourg and the country of residence would then share the taxes paid by the employee".

This proposal, which he wishes to defend with the French, Belgian and German governments, would be a means of reducing overcrowded road traffic in Luxembourg, where some border workers spend about three hours a day on the road to work.
