Buses get government backing in Republic of Ireland

Dublin residents can now benefit from faster and more efficient bus services and a cleaner environment since the Government has backed the BusConnects programme.

The way is now clear for the National Transport Authority (NTA) in the Republic to submit planning permission for the building of 230km of Core Bus Corridors to An Bord Pleanála and 200km of cycle lanes.

BusConnects will result in 25% more bus services in Dublin, plus improved cycling and pedestrian facilities. It will also help to provide cleaner and quieter streets. The current fleet of buses will be converted to a zero-emission fleet by 2035.
