Greening the fleet - SAP accelerates its move to carbon-free
Multinational software corporation SAP stated this week that by 2025, all new vehicles ordered as company cars will be emission free.
“As world and business leaders gather in Glasgow for COP26, SAP continues taking concrete action to combat climate change”, the company stated in a press release.
A large proportion of SAP’s own direct emissions are made up from its 27,000 car fleet’s fuel consumption. However, electric vehicles (EVs) have been part of SAP’s car fleet since 2010 and today comprise nearly 20% of the total.
As part of its enterprise platform, SAP also offers SAP E-Mobility, a cloud-based solution helping customers operate EV charging infrastructures at scale.
Trialling a mobility budget
The software company says it actively incentivised employees to switch to EVs. It has also expanded its own charging infrastructure, and does so regularly, to meet demand and is currently trialling a mobility budget in Germany as an alternative to a company car.
“Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges worldwide, and we want to be part of the solution,” said Luka Mucic, SAP CFO, member of the Executive Board and Board sponsor for SAP´s sustainability efforts. “Our car fleet is an important factor here. We also want to help our customers to achieve their climate goals.”
