Opel presents new electrified Astra
Uwe Hochgeschurtz, the newly appointed CEO of Opel, presented the new Astra.
The sixth generation of the popular fleet car in Europe comes with plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains. Based on the third generation EMP2 multi-energy architecture, the new Astra is 4,374 metres long and 1,86 metres wide, while the wheelbase is increased to 2,675 metres by 13 mm. The adjustable floor provides an additional volume of 1,250 litres besides the driver and four passengers.
The power range of the new models will be between 81 kW/110hp and 165 kW/225hp. New Astra has a 14% higher torsional rigidity than the previous model, providing better stopping power and stability.
New Astra comes with a fully digital Pure Panel, including a new human-machine interface (HMI) with modern graphics. The extra-wide touchscreen aims to enable drivers to use the new Astra like using a smartphone. The assistance system of the new Astra includes Intelli-Drive 2.0, integrating all cameras and sensors of the car, including the 360-degree camera Intelli-Vision. The front design represents Opel Vizor, equipped with Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Light to offer superior illumination.
The plug-in hybrid model of the new Astra will be available to order from October. The fully electric Astra-e model will be on the market in 2023. The prices of the new Astra will start from €22,465.
