Volta enters Europe to build commerce-centric EV charging networks

California-based Volta Charging has announced its ambition to enter the European market, focusing on Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France.

Volta's European strategy relies on experienced local teams of hardware, software and SaaS experts who will enable the company to expand operations from offices based initially in Berlin and Paris.

Volta is banking on a significant reduction in the use of ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles in the next three years and anticipating that drivers will need to charge their EVs wherever they are.

Charging stations with customised content

Volta plans to quickly expand its commerce-centric charging infrastructure in Europe through an eye-catching approach. The company is deliberately selecting commercial sites as ideal charging stations and will be streaming content for drivers and customers via large displays integrated into the charging stations.

Volta also expects to gain European customers with the support of business partners, including Netflix and Starbucks.

In addition, the European charging network of Volta will be guided by behavioural science and machine learning (ML) analysis.
