Citroën introduces new C4 with fully electric variant

Make all things crossover and electric, that’s the recipe all carmakers appear to follow. So does Citroën, with its new C4, which also has a fully electric variant, the ë-C4. At the same time, sister brand DS has added a new version to the DS7 Crossback E-Tense.

The new C4 has a distinctive, more aggressive design that its predecessor, and its ride height is lifted to the crossover level.

The new car will be offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines but the electric variant draws most attention at this point. Details will only be disclosed at the end of the month.

The electric ë-C4 (yes, that diaeresis is supposed to be there) gets its drivetrain from the Peugeot 308, meaning an expected 50kWh battery pack and a range of around 320 kilometres, but actual characteristics could be different.

Citroën says compact hatchbacks accounted for nearly 28% of all C-segment sales in 2019, making it an important product for Citroën. If we can all agree a crossover is still just a hatchback.

DS7 Crossback E-Tense 225

Citroën’s premium sister DS has introduced a second plug-in hybrid version of the DS7 Crossback. The new DS7 Crossback E-Tense 225 will be a more economical, lower-power version, offering an electric range of just under 40km.

The E-Tense 225 combines a 180hp petrol engine with a 110hp electric motor that produce a 225hp system output, which also tells you where this model got its name.

CO₂ levels range between 31 and 36g/km, slightly lower than the E-Tense 4x4 model, which has more power.

The new powertrain will be available across trim levels.
