FCA teams up with Enel X and ENGIE for e-mobility

In order to expand its e-mobility solutions, the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Group has signed partnerships with Enel X and ENGIE.

FCA’s forthcoming EV lineup includes the Fiat 500 BEV and the Jeep Renegade PHEV.

TCO of EVs
By offering home charging points, convenient access to public charging and other innovative charging solutions to FCA’s retail and business customers, the partnerships will help FCA extend its EV range across Europe. They will also include R&D to reduce the TCO of EVs.

  • Enel X will work with FCA in Italy, Spain and Portugal. Initially, the partnership will aim to install 700 charging stations at its Italian plants, offices and R&D centres.
  • ENGIE will work with FCA in 14 further European markets (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Netherland, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and UK).

Dealer electrification

  • ENGIE will be relying heavily on ENGIE Eps., a subsidiary specialising in energy storage, which previously worked with FCA to develop EVBox, a producer of charging stations.
  • FCA will work with both partners towards the ‘electrification’ of its dealer network across Europe.
  • Over the next two years, FCA will also install around 700 charging stations at its Italian locations to enable employees to recharge their EVs during working hours.

EV bandwagon

FCA’s two new partnerships will also specifically support the production and distribution of PHEV and BEV models as part of the Group’s 2018-22 plan.

FCA’s partnerships should help its home market Italy get on board the EV bandwagon. According to date from the European Automotive Manufacturers Association (ACEA), BEVs had no more than a 0.2% market share in Italy in Q1 2019.

And according to the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO), there are just 3,800 EV charging stations across the entire country – the lowest number in the EU’s Big Five markets (EU5).
