Peugeot, Citroen, Opel and Vauxhall reveal all-new, 100% electric vans

Peugeot, Citroen, Opel and Vauxhall have unveiled details of their new, all-electric mid-size light commercial vehicle, which will go on sale in the second half of this year.

The Citroen ë-Jumpy (e-Dispatch in the UK), the Peugeot e-Expert and Opel / Vauxhall Vivaro-e come in two power versions, depending on battery size. The 50kWh battery is capable of a range of 230km (WLTP test cycle); the 75kWh battery extends the vehicle’s range to 330km.

Charging speeds

A rapid charge facility enables drivers to use 100kW charge points capable of recharging the batteries to 80% of their capacity in 30 minutes for the 50kWh battery and 45 minutes for 75kWh battery. Charging from a 7.4kW wallbox would take from 7 hours to 11hours 20 minutes, depending on the battery size.

The manufacturers have partnered with charge point installers in each European country to help customers install workplace and domestic chargers.

Dimensions

The vehicle’s lithium-ion battery is mounted in the chassis so it does not compromise load space, and the van comes in three body sizes:

  • XS – 4.6m long and 5.1 m3 load volume. This is a new size targeted at urban deliveries.
  • M – 4.96m long and 5.8m3 load volume.
  • XL – 5.3m long and 6.6m3 load volume.

At 1.25m wide between the wheel arches, the ë-Jumpy can accommodate a standard Euro pallet, and its maximum payload (depending on version) is 1,275kg. The cab has three full front seats.

USPs

One unique feature for this segment of van is the hands-free opening and closing of the sliding side door, which would be particularly convenient for delivery drivers with their arms full of packages. The door opens and closes if the driver is carrying the key and waves his foot under the corner of the rear bumper.

To boost vehicle and driver safety, the van also features a heads-up display, which shows speed, cruise control-speed limiter setting, navigation information and collision risk alert, while allowing the drivers to keep their eyes on the road. This is another unique feature in this segment of LCV.

Prices of the ë-Jumpy, e-Expert and Vivaro-e have yet to be announced.
