Revamped Nissan Leaf: 62 kWh for 385-km WLTP range

Now that the brand new Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia e-Niro feature a 64-kWh battery capable of driving some 450 km on a single charge, Nissan is annoucing the launch of an enhanced Leaf version to make amends.

Called the e+, the top model of the Leaf benefits from a 160-kW strong motor mated to a so-called Intelligent Power battery pack offering 25% more energy density and 55% more capacity than the standard 40-kWh one. This results in over 100 km of extra range compared to the standard model, i.e. 385 km under WLTP conditions.

2019 upgrades

Nissan also announces the introduction of a new 8-inch infotainment system for the 2019 model year, including additional connectivity features and a new door to door navigation system. Moreover, buyers can now use a bespoke Nissan Connect EV app to make electric life easier.

The Nissan Leaf was Europe's best-selling electric car in 2018, selling 40,000 units. In 2017, the sales crown was worn by its cousin, the Renault Zoé. What makes the Leaf special is its e-Pedal, allowing drivers to use just one pedal for both accelerating and braking.

The 2019 Nissan Leaf - both the standard and the e+ model - will be available in Europe in the second half of 2019. Prices will be announced in March.
