New entry-level plug-in for Volvo XC40: T4 Recharge

The Swedish OEM makes electric driving more accessible by introducing the XC40 T4 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid. This new Belgian built variant within Volvo's plug-in hybrid range has a combined output of 155 kW (211 hp) and an electric driving range of 45 kilometres (WLTP).

According to its maker, the XC40 T4 Recharge’s towing weight of 1,800 kg is the highest in the segment. Volvo also claims the impact of the batteries on the luggage compartment is minimal. All luggage space above the cargo floor has been retained and there is still the possibility to store the parcel shelf under the cargo floor. The tank capacity of 48 litres is also carried over.

Three versions, starting at €39k

The prices of the new Volvo XC40 T4 Recharge Plug-in hybrid start at roughly € 39,000 excluding VAT. The basic version is called Inscription Expression and already includes a lot of ADAS, such as City Safety, Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake, Pedestrian Detection, Cyclist Detection, Large Animal Detection, Lane Keeping Aid with Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and Driver Alert Control. The looks are guaranteed by 18-inch alloy wheels with 5 aero spokes.

One step up is the T4 Recharge Inscription. For roughly € 2,500 more you get leather seats, front seats with a manually extendable seat cushion, Drift Wood inlay panels in the dashboard and doors, a crystal shift knob, and 19-inch alloy wheels with 5 double-spoke in Glossy Black / Diamond Cut finish.

Those who go for the sporty look can opt for the R-Design. This trim level costs about € 41,000 excluding VAT and comes with numerous dynamic design elements, such as a contrasting roof in Solid Black. The integrated roof rails, the skid plates at the front and rear and the radiator grille are painted in Glossy Black.

Free charging until May 30, 2021

Volvo Car also offers buyers of a new Volvo plug-in hybrid free charging for a year. With this, the OEM encourages drivers to make maximum use of the lithium-ion battery pack in order to drive as much on e-power as possible. The offer applies to anyone who purchases or leases a new Volvo plug-in hybrid model from October 16, 2019 to September 30, 2020.
