Luxembourg gets 100% electric shared bike fleet

From July 1st, Luxembourg will be the first European city to boast a fully-electric fleet of shared bikes. By that date, JCDecaux will replace the city's current fleet of 700 shared bicycles with a total of 800 e-bikes.

The replacement is a result of a tender launched last year for operating a shared bicycle fleet in the Grand Duchy's capital, for a period of 10 years. The contract was awarded to JCDecaux Luxembourg, which had been operating the city's Vel'oH! scheme since 2008.

However, under the terms of the new contract, the new fleet of shared bicycles in Luxembourg will be entirely electric, with 800 units spread out over 80 stations, replacing the now classic 'blue bikes' (pictured).

The cities and towns in the greater metropolitan area will have a chance to join Luxembourg's shared bicycle network.
