Macadam acquires key parts of SGS

Vehicle inspection specialist Macadam Europe has signed an agreement to incorporate the Automotive Asset Assessment & Retail Network Services of SGS – the company widely regarded as the ‘inventor of vehicle inspection’.

The agreement pertains to SGS’s Automotive Asset Assessment and Retail Network Services for Europe and the Middle East. The agreement, which is expected to close on 1 July and is subject to approval with the relevant authorities, will give Macadam a wider range of solutions and a broader presence throughout Europe.

Milestone acquisition

In a press statement released today, the company hails the acquisition as a milestone: “Combining the strength of both companies will provide customers with even more comprehensive and innovative solutions.”

Both companies pride themselves on a commitment to quality and customer loyalty, and boast extensive geographical coverage. Because of the complementary nature of both companies’ businesses and services, Macadam expects the integration process to run smoothly.

Specifically, SGS’s inspection methods will be combined with Macadam's tailor-made IT solutions for vehicle inspection, and  SGS’s highly experienced staff will be welcomed into the extended Macadam family. Both teams will integrate using a single IT system and the Macadam brand name.

“Very excited”

Founded in 1993, Belgium-based Macadam Europe has more than 450 employees and 650,000 active off-lease inspections in 12 countries. The company is current market leader in vehicle inspections in various countries.

With the acquisition from Switzerland-based SGS, Macadam Europe will have a total of 720 employees, with around 1 million vehicles inspections per year in 21 countries – making it one of the largest vehicle inspection companies in Europe.

"We’re very excited about this agreement and the opportunities it presents for our employees, customers, and partners," says Bertrand Donck (pictured), CEO of Macadam Europe. "With the combined strengths of both companies, we are well-positioned for continued growth and success in the years to come."
