CarNext pilots AI-based car inspections in Netherlands
Pan-European used-car platform CarNext is piloting virtual car inspections in the Netherlands, in collaboration with ProovStation and DEKRA. The aim is to automate the scanning and damage detection part of the reconditioning process by using ProovStation’s scanner, which comes equipped with 20 high-res cameras and runs on Artificial Intelligence.
This scanner is a garage-like structure (pictured) that automatically measures tire thread depth and scans the entire vehicle in seconds – not just the outer body, but also the underbody and the interior. The result is a holistic overview of dents, scratches, and other damages. Based on these automated reports, used vehicles will be reconditioned on 228 checkpoints. This will apply to all cars offered by CarNext in the Netherlands.
- “This new inspection technology will streamline our operations, allowing for significant scale-up and greater efficiency,” said Grainne van Berkum, COO at CarNext.
- “As the leading AI-powered vehicle inspection solution across Europe, we are proud to improve the whole inspection process in terms of increased accuracy of damage recognition”, added Cédric Bernard, CEO at ProovStation.
- “This latest pilot is a great example of how we and our partners are all seeking to improve processes like the End of Term inspection,” concluded Denis Saubagnac, Director Fleet and Remarketing at DEKRA.
