AI platform cuts fleet crashes by 40%-60%

A pioneering artificial intelligence-based driver safety system claims it can help fleets to reduce their crash frequency and collision-related costs by 40%-60% by eliminating incidents of distracted driving. The Nauto Driver and Fleet Safety Platform uses a multi-sensor device and camera to monitor the driver, vehicle, and road ahead in real-time for the earliest signs of distracted and aggressive driving behaviour.

Instant driver alert

Data gathered by the sensors is immediately analysed via AI in the vehicle, without the need to upload data to the cloud. If the system detects evidence of high risk driving, such as tailgating or the driver looking at a phone screen, it immediately triggers an alert.

The data also allows fleet operators to assess the overall safety of their fleets and to identify higher risk drivers for subsequent training. Importantly, especially in this socially-distanced era of Covid-19, Nauto also allows drivers to self-coach, providing them with personalised videos and insights of their own higher risk driving events, along with advice on how to avoid them in future.

Crash reporting

And if there is a collision, the Nauto platform automatically sends a notification and video of the crash to the fleet manager, to speed up the resolution of insurance claims.

Nauto says its machine learning algorithms, built upon billions of data points from nearly one billion AI-analysed video miles, can spot the first signs of higher risk driving behaviour and alert drivers before collisions occur.

Nauto joints Geotab Marketplace

This week, Nauto’s Driver and Fleet Safety Platform joined the Geotab Marketplace, giving fleet operators greater visibility and insights into their vehicles and drivers by combining the data and AI analysis of Nauto’s sensors with the rich information collected by Geotab’s telematics system, presented in a single interface.

The integration also provides fleet managers with real-time access to video and driving performance data.

Stefan Heck, Nauto CEO and founder, said: “Nauto is the first real-time, AI-powered Driver and Fleet Safety Platform to help predict, actively prevent, and reduce high-risk events in the mobility ecosystem. This integration will help customers take their safety programmes, productivity, and efficiency to the next level.”

Louis De Jong, executive vice president, Geotab, said: “As safety is a core pillar at Geotab, we are always looking for ways to help our customers minimise risk and improve driver safety. With the addition of Nauto on the Marketplace, customers have access to a solution that can help reduce the likelihood of an at-fault accident from occurring and gain greater visibility into driver behaviour.”
