Working from home, shared and on-demand mobility, micro-mobility and e-mobility, corporate mobility as a benefit: all topics that are high on the agenda of the fleet and mobility manager today. The Smart Mobility Institute prepared a series of e-papers that you can download free of charge.

Micro-mobility & e-mobility to reduce eco footprint

Micro-mobility and e-mobility are key pieces of the flexible mobility puzzle, prompting fleet and mobility managers to formalise a new form factor in policies. Challenges however are plentiful, from supply chain to solution integration. As the range of electrified micro-mobility delivers more flexibility than non-powered solutions, micro-mobility and electrification go hand-in-hand. In addition, micro-mobility has become a business model that thrives on data collection; here as well, electrification and connectivity contribute directly to the success of the model.

Implementing micro-mobility presents opportunities, and is worth the efforts required to overcome its challenges.

Shared & on-demand mobility to support fleet efficiency

Unlike most corporate assets, the utilisation rate of company cars has, for a long time, escaped the attention of the fleet manager, not the least because of the benefit aspect of the company car. The other reason is the absence of metrics, as well as the absence of valid alternatives.

This has changed now. Technology and mobility are fundamental enablers of on-demand. In addition, a more generic – and social – trend of transitioning from ownership to usership, supported by the promotion and revival of cyclic economies, is bringing sharing and on-demand to the fleet and mobility table. The question is: how to make shared and on-demand fit into traditional car fleet programmes and, even more important, does it make sense?

Working from home

Working from home, today’s reality for most employees, is a challenge and an opportunity at the same time. A challenge, because it requires infrastructural and managerial changes that needed to be implemented fast and often without the support of policies. An opportunity, because Working From Home (WFH) accelerates various trends that started prior to the pandemic, such as digitisation of business models.

When translating the concept and effects of WFH into car policy statements, this might be the right time and place to question the role of the (dedicated) company car: decreased asset utilisation typically leads to asset sharing or downright removal of the assets, or perhaps, the start of mobility as a corporate service.

Corporate Mobility as a Benefit

Download e-paper

Even if nor the supply chain, nor the enterprise client is ready and prepared to fully replace the company car with alternative solutions, mobility is building reputation as part of innovative benefit strategies. The total rewards world is moving away from fixed benefits (salary, retirement, health, car) and has started a journey towards flexible benefits systems, whereby the employees select those benefits that fit their lifestyle and family situation.

During the Smart Mobility Institute session with focus on Mobility as a Benefit, we look at this evolution from different angles.
