Cegeka’s Mobilize produces ‘urban digital twins’ to optimise traffic
Belgium-based ICT multinational Cegeka has launched Mobilize, a platform that provides traffic insights for urban planners. “Data-driven, innovative technology can help cities make informed choices in terms of mobility”, says Stijn Bijnens, CEO at Cegeka.
Mobilize uses Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and specific traffic methods to produce an ‘urban digital twin’ of an actual city. The platform does this by collecting, processing and visualising data from traffic – current and historical – and related sources.
Within minutes, this generates insights which help urban planners build mobility scenarios – including new circulation plans or large infrastructure works – and predict their future impact.
Mobilize was made possible by combining Cegeka’s own IT and AI capabilities with the academic transport models, developed by the Institute of Mobility (IMOB) at the University of Hasselt (UHasselt) in Belgium, which focus strongly on so-called displacement behaviour among mobility users looking for the ideal moment, mode and route for their trip.
