Tesla goes Europe

Tesla is opening its European market, not only by the arrival of Tesla’s Model 3, but as well by making its models compatible with the European CCS charging standard.

By the end of this year, Tesla will launch an order page for the Model 3 in Europe, on which initially only reservation holders could set an order; and in limited countries, including EV market leader Norway, and Switserland, Australia, Holland, Germany, Belgium, France, Portugal and Spain. The production will start in January, with the first deliveries expected by February-March.

Together with the launch of the Model 3, Tesla announced that it will switch the Model 3 to the Combined Charging System (CCS) in Europe; the Model S and Model X will get an adaptor for DC CCS chargers. As a result not only will the Tesla models be available for Europeans, they will be compatible with the European charging network, and no longer exclusively with the Tesla charging network. Additionally, the compatibility between Tesla and other EVs and their charging point is the plan to retrofit Supercharging stations in Europe with CCS Combo DC plugs by Tesla, as a result charging barriers between European EV brands and Tesla might be solved.
