ZipCar zips out of Brussels, Paris, Barcelona
Car-sharing service ZipCar announced it is pulling the plug from its operations in Brussels, Paris and Barcelona at the end of February 2019, citing fierce competition from other providers and from company cars. Its parent company Avis has decided to focus on the UK and North American markets.
In spite of a 75% growth in the Belgian capital in 2018, usage numbers appear to have been insufficient to make the business profitable. Other car sharing services have also expressed concerns over efforts required to make their business viable.
