Volkswagen's Moia begins ride-sharing service in Hamburg

Volkswagen’s mobility division, Moia, is beginning public ride-sharing services with electric vans in Hamburg in April.

Residents of Hamburg, Germany’s second biggest city, can use the Moia app to book a ride and in one of 100 vehicles. Over the next 12 months, Moia will increase the fleet to 500 vehicles.

Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics, Transport and Innovation in Hamburg, says: "Innovation is crucial in making mobility in Hamburg quieter, safer and more environmentally friendly. Ridesharing services close the gap between taxis and local public transport. Ridesharing reduces individual trips and relieves urban traffic overall. We are going to host the ITS World Congress in 2021 and want to use this opportunity to advance the digitisation and efficiency of our roads.”
