Citroen unveils electric, autonomous mobility concept

Citroën has unveiled a radical vision for future urban mobility, creating a battery-powered ‘Skate’ onto which different pods can be attached.

The manufacturer has worked with Accor and JCDecaux to design three different pods to attach to the electric, autonomous Citroen Skate.

The Sofitel En Voyage pod offers chic, hotel-style luxury to travellers; the Pullman Power Fitness Pod (pictured above) offers 24-hour classes for commuters who want to get fit on their way to and from work; and the JCDecaux City Provider is an on-demand travel solution.

The Skate (pictured above) is designed to travel in dedicated lanes, and recharges its batteries via induction. Citroen’s vision is for the different pods to take no longer than 10 seconds to attach to the Skate, and its open-source architecture willallow any third party to develop a pod that is compatible with the technical specifications of the Skate.

Vincent Cobée, Citroën Global CEO, said:“At Citroën, we examine medium and long-term trends to anticipate consumer expectations and needs. We believe that this new concept can redefine the framework of urban mobility: shared, electric and autonomous.”
