ZF adds CarPay-Diem to Car eWallet

ZF Friedrichshafen will add CarPay-Diem to its Car eWallet solution as a service provider for vehicle refuelling – including for autonomous vehicles.

Over the last months, Germany-based car systems supplier ZF Friedrichshafen has been working with UBS and IBM to develop the Car eWallet. Based on blockchain technology, the Car eWallet is a mobility transaction platform that aims to present its users with a full, end-to-end integration of mobility services, vehicles and infrastructure.

On the go
Car eWallet is an app that can be used as a virtual car key, that can serve as a 'car pass', registering the vehicle's history, and that allows for secure and convenient payments 'on the go' for services like road tolls, parking and EV charging. With the addition of CarPay-Diem to the range of solutions included in Car eWallet, the platform will now also include a convenient way to process vehicle refuelling.

CarPay-Diem allows any mobile app or connected car to activate any fuel pump. When integrated in the Car eWallet, CarPay-Diem will allow Car eWallet users who arrive at a fuel station to enter the pump number on the display of the dashboard. The transaction is approved, and they are then invited to refill the tank.

Processed automatically
When the nozzle is placed back on the pump, the transaction is completed. CarPay-Diem manages the fuel station processes and confirms that the driver can leave the fuel station. Invoicing is processed automatically. No bank or fuel card needs to be presented.

As a result of its inclusion in the Car eWallet, CarPay-Diem will now also allow autonomous cars to pay for the fuel refill.

“We are proud to join the Car eWallet project for the creation of the mobility services of the future”, said Frédéric Stiernon, founder and CEO of Luxembourg-based CarPay-Diem.

Driver experience
“Connecting the Car eWallet technology to the CarPay-Diem platform will allow connected and in the future also autonomous cars to pay for the fuel refills while providing the greatest driver experience”.

The partners in the Car eWallet project plan to launch live pilots in different regions over the next months. CarPay-Diem is currently compatible with more than 100,000 fuel stations in Europe.
