Nissan is next to end diesel cars in Europe

After similar announcements made by Toyota and FCA, Nissan is the next manufacturer to phase out diesel-powered cars for the European market.

The Japanese carmaker made this decision in light of weakening demand for those cars and diesel restrictions that are put in place in various cities.

Nissan is expecting to move customers from diesel to electric vehicles. The move should be complete by 2021, though the company will still offer diesel options for commercial vehicles and pick-up trucks.

Diesel sales have dropped significantly over the last two years. In the whole of Europe, their market share was down to 43% last year but some countries saw even stronger declines.
