Beyond fuel cards - fill up anywhere

Prior to fuel cards, employees had to submit fuel expense claim forms (usually paper) to accounts departments with dozens of illegible, screwed up receipts attached. Fuel cards negated much of the manual work and inefficiency associated with the claims process and the systems that underpin them have been highly effective in flagging up fraudulent or inaccurate claims, but there are still issues.

Fuel cards were first introduced in the 1970s by the big oil companies to encourage loyalty, but therein lies the problem. Customers use them as charge cards and enjoy discounts on fuel but single brand fuel cards have resulted in drivers wasting time driving around trying to find a service station that accepts their card.

Fill up anywhere

Mooncard, however, is accepted at 100% of fuel stations in most European countries.

Céline Corouge, CMO at Mooncard, tells us: “Drivers can often drive 30-40km out of their way to find a service station that matches their brand of fuel card, which is pretty crazy when you think about it. Mooncard Mobility is accepted anywhere.”

In addition, Mooncard Mobility is more than a fuel card. Drivers can use it to pay for tolls, service, maintenance and repair, car washes, parking, charging for electric vehicles and more. Unlike other cards, it has been specifically designed for fleets, with a software platform that enables comprehensive reporting of expenses, mileage and other fleet cost data.

Users can also collect loyalty points in the form of Flying Blue miles (the loyalty program of AIR FRANCE-KLM). Mooncard is compatible with all fleet management platforms so information can automatically be sent to the company’s accounting system. Fuel expenses arrive in real-time and complete (no missing receipts). So, the fleet manager has a transparent overview of fuel and mobility expenses and the data is synced with the financial accounting software without any re-keying.

Fleet managers set the parameters and can customise the card to align with the mobility policy of their company.

Mooncard Mobility Benefits:

  • Supremely efficient: drivers don’t waste productive time driving around to find a service station that accepts their brand of fuel card and data goes straight into the system.
  • Positively informative: used in association with Mooncard’s smartphone app, the driver can be directed to the “closest service station”, the “cheapest fuel stop” and a host of other key terms.
  • Highly secure and reliable: parameters allow fleet managers to limit the expenses to the travel policy. These limits can be changed in real-time if needed (for repairs, for example) and cards can be suspended by the company if they are lost, stolen or misused.
  • Distinctly flexible: customers can choose the parameters of their card and allow other expenses associated with travel (such as meals and hotel stays) and transform the card into a corporate card if desired.

Always accurate, always up-to-date, highly secure.

With Mooncard, fleet and mobility managers can set the rules, such as:

  • Spend allowed per day
  • Spend allowed per week
  • Days of the week that the card can be used
  • Times of the day the card can be used
  • Authorised or restricted merchants

These savings are significant, plus Mooncard Mobility has simplicity built in, Céline Corouge explains: “Mooncard Mobility is a VISA card so information about each transaction goes straight into the software. There’s no need to write anything, no manual fields to fill in or receipts to store. This makes for an efficient and error-free process.”

The Mooncard Mobility charge card expands beyond tarmac to cover all mobility options, including: train, air and all kinds of passenger transport (including car hire). And even then, the mobility manager can set controls that dictate the rules around booking and paying for any kind of mobility.

Corouge adds: “We are launching our mobile app, which includes a map of where you can find the closest service stations and the pricing in real-time. You are sure to find the cheapest fuel around, which can be a real cost-saver, especially these days when fuel costs are rising so fast.

We also have partnerships with airlines, through the Flying Blue program, which is a coup for us and enables our users to collect air miles so their Mooncard becomes a loyalty card and enables them to earn flight tickets for personal or professional use.”

In the near future, Mooncard plans to expand into more European countries, plus broaden its services in the countries in which it already operates.

Corouge says: “Europe is big, we have a huge playground to be active in. We’re continually working to upgrade the card and add new features based on feedback from our clients.”

Mooncard Mobility for Android and Apple iOS are available from their respective online stores.
