Continental tyre can self-regulate pressure to save fuel
At this year’s IAA in Frankfurt, automotive supplier Continental revealed the world’s first tyre that can adjust its own pressure, thereby tackling a common problem: underinflation, which leads to more resistance and therefore a higher fuel consumption.
To adjust the tyre pressure Continental uses a centrifugal pump built into the wheel, which uses the spinning force of the wheel. Continental believes this technology will allow for an appreciable drop in CO2 emissions.
