Avis launches used-car portal in UK

Avis Car Rental UK has launched Avis Car Sales, an online portal that enables both dealers and trade buyers to acquire used Avis vehicles. 

“We’ve long wanted to improve the efficiency of our remarketing”, says Nina Bell, managing director of Avis Budget Group UK. “Moving online is an obvious and important step (…) but finding the right approach and partner was critical”.

The portal, developed in partnership with the CD Auction Group, offers a selection of the rental company’s end-of-contract vehicles via weekly closed auction sales. Similar to eBay, there is a separate channel where prospective buyers have the option to ‘buy it now’.

The portal uses CD Auction Group’s online technology as well as its back-office technical and administrative support. Vehicles from Avis UK will be processed at several sites across the country, but all will be sold via the new Avis Car Sales online auction platform.

Dedicated support
All currently registered Avis UK used-vehicle buyers are automatically enrolled on the platform. New buyers will be able to register for bidding in the weekly closed auctions. 

Avis previously remarketed its end-of-contract vehicles via the online sales channel of CD Auctions, where it was one of many vendors. The rental company expects that its proprietary online used vehicle portal will significantly speed up the remarketing process. 

One of the advantages of having its own online portal is that Avis can now offer dedicated account management support to dealer/buyers.
