Swedish car group buys more Mercedes dealerships in Belgium

Last year, the Swedish Anders Hedin Invest Group took over seven Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the larger Ghent area. Now, the company announced it is also taking over five dealerships in the Antwerp area.

The Anders Hedin Invest Group sells 28 car brands in 100 dealerships across Europe. It employs 2,900 people and had a turnover of €1.45bn selling 60,000 cars in their dealer network.

Belgium is an interesting market for dealership consolidation. In spite of low profit margins (around 2.15%), the car market is strong and car sales are high. More change in the sector is expected as many dealerships are now considered to be too small. The total number of dealers may also be too high to be sustainable.
