Mobility innovator Silence teams up with importer Astara

The Silence SO4 has a range of 150 km.

The Spanish provider of smart urban eco-mobility, Silence, is further expanding its European network. Through a deal with distributor giant Astara, its eco-scooters and new nanocar, with a battery-as-a-service technology, become available to businesses in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Silence, already represented in major markets like the UK, France, Germany and Spain, targets both private customers and mobility providers and professional fleets, especially active in the field of last-mile delivery. Entering the local markets of Belgium and Luxembourg is accompanied by the unveiling of a second product: the S04 nanocar.

Trolley battery

The small two-seater uses the same retractable battery pack as the S01 and S02 scooters but boosts range to 150 km because it can handle two packs. These so-called trolley batteries are an in-house development. They can be interchanged between both mobility solutions, charged at a domestic socket and swapped in dedicated stations which Silence plans to roll out in major cities across Europe. The trolley battery can also be used as an external power source.

Customers or users can choose to purchase the mobility solutions, enrol in a sharing program or opt for a subscription scheme. A dedicated app connects the scooter and car to a smartphone as to facilitate charging, activation and sharing.

The Spanish mobility startup Silence was founded in 2012. The new deal with Astara, also rooted in Spain, could prove a crucial stepping stone for further expansion. Astara represents 30 brands in 17 countries, including South America. The Group, which shifted 230,000 vehicles in 2021, is mainly active in worldwide car distribution but envisions growing its business towards multi-modal forms of mobility.
