Citymapper launches subscription service

Citymapper has announced the launch, in March or April, of a subscription service in London. The public-transport app and mapping service will thus transform itself into a mobility platform.

The service will be offered via Citymapper Pass, a prepaid card that can hold two types of subscriptions:

  • £30 per week for full access to zones 1 and 2 of the TfL network (metro, buses, etc.)
  • For an additional £10 per week, subscribers get unlimited access to the Santander shared bikes, and two rides on Citymapper's own ridesharing service.

The Citymapper Pass can not only be used to hold the subscriptions but also to as a prepaid card to pay for extras, e.g. tube journeys beyond zone 2.

In the increasingly fragmented urban mobility ecosystem, the company wants to aggregate more and more modes of transport (e.g. e-scooters, other bicycle schemes, etc.) The aim is a card that carries a customised package of mobility subscriptions, eliminating the need to pay for individual trips, even across different modes of transport.
