Aiways second BEV U6ion starts European roadshow
Officially, it’s still a concept. However, Chinese car brand Aiways already mentions how “very close” the U6ion represents the final production model. The all-electric wide-body cross-over coupé will soon join the U5, on sale in 10 countries across Europe. The car must not only open up new markets but ultimately propel sales into the five-digit territory.
With its muscular looks and clever interior details - on top of the dashboard sits a mini-robot, and in the back, there’s a special storage box for a drone - it is clear that the U6ion addresses a younger public.
However, this sturdy coupé sits on the same MAS platform (More Adaptable Structure) as the U5. It focuses on low weight for the structure, the battery pack and the motors to help boost range. Also helping is the drag coefficient, a very favourable 0.27.
Aiways doesn’t communicate details about the driveline, but the brand does refer to an extensive list of ADAS features, such as auto Emergency Brake (AEB), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC), Lane Keeping System (LKS), driver fatigue detection, and more.
The U6ion has started its roadshow in Antwerp, Belgium. Afterwards, it will visit Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Denmark, and Sweden. The final version of the U6ion comes later in 2022. As part of its rapid expansion plan, Aiways plans to launch a new model every year. The brand was launched only five years ago.
