VW resumes ID3 production, confirms summer launch

Volkswagen has resumed production of its full-electric ID3 (pictured) on Thursday. Production at the VW plant in Zwickau had been shuttered since March 20. Prior to closure, the plant had been turning out over 100 ID3s per day.

Volkswagen confirms that the model’s launch is maintained for this summer. The goal remains to deliver 30,000 pre-booked ID3 first edition models to all customers at the same time.

As its first long-range EV model, the ID3 is key for VW’s future. The ID3 is geared towards the European market and is not expected to launch in North America.

Meanwhile, VW has also resumed production at its plant in Bratislava (Slovakia) and hopes to resume operations in all its plants across Europe, Russia and North America in May. All but one of VW’s 33 factories in China are up and running again.
