Deutsche Post DHL to buy 2,000 Ford E-Transit electric vans

Deutsche Post DHL Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ford Pro to accelerate its deployment of electric vans.

The international logistics giant will acquire more than 2,000 electric delivery vans worldwide by the end of next year.

Telematics and charging

The agreement includes access to Ford Pro’s connected E-Telematics programme, as well as to charging solutions.

Deutsche Post DHL has committed to spend €7 billion this decade as it moves towards carbon net zero emissions, with a goal of electrifying 60% of its pick-up and delivery fleet by 2030.

Anna Spinelli, Chief Procurement Officer & Head of Mobility, Deutsche Post DHL Group, said: “Electrification of last mile logistics is a major pillar to decarbonise our operations. Adding the new Ford E-Transit to our global fleet of around 27,000 electric vans further strengthens our capability of providing green delivery services worldwide. Joining forces to address our logistics specific requirements will drive operational and service efficiency further.”

The fleet has already taken delivery of its first Ford E-Transits in several countries, including Bulgaria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands and UK.

Deutsche Post DHL has also signed an agreement with Ford Pro for the supply of special vehicles, with a customised box for inner city distribution in Germany. Furthermore, the manufacturer will supply Deutsche Post DHL with test vehicles and monitoring services as the two companies explore the global expansion of their cooperation.

Ford's net zero goal

Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe, said: “Ford Pro and Deutsche Post DHL Group share the vision of greater sustainability and a commitment to electrified solutions, and this agreement is a major step towards millions of deliveries being completed by electrified vehicles around the world. E-Transit is the top-selling commercial EV in North America and since June is also the best-seller in its segment in Europe, meaning the all-electric 2-tonne van is already making big strides to support this ambition.”

Ford has set itself the target of zero emissions for all its vehicle sales in Europe by 2035, alongside carbon neutrality across its European facilities, logistics and suppliers.
