New Zoe boasts 390 km range

It’s still uncertain whether the third-generation Zoe will hit Europe’s streets late this year or early next. Judging by its specs – now revealed by Renault – it’ll be worth the wait. With more range and power and faster charging, the fully-electric Zoe is back in the game.

Launched in 2012 and updated in 2016, the Renault Zoe was up for a thorough revision. The 2020 Renault Zoe (pictured) resolutely returns to the front of the group of EVs vying for the title of the World’s Favourite No-Emission Urban Vehicle. Some major innovations:

Battery and charging

  • Zoe’s battery is upgraded from the second-generation ZE 40 model (41 kWh) to the ZE 50 (52 kWh). As a result, the third-generation Zoe can travel up to 390 km on a single charge (based on the new WLTP test cycle). That’s an increase of around 20%.
  • Charging has also been improved. A 22 kW AC charger will provide 126 km range in just one hour. But the even faster (optional) 50 kW DC charging will add 145 km in just half an hour. A full recharge from a standard 7 kW AC wall box takes 8 to 9 hours.

Horsepower and design

  • A new 134-horsepower electric motor, available in some versions, enables the Zoe to hit 100 km/h in less than 10 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 140 km/h.
  • The exterior design has been tweaked, featuring a reshaped bonnet, fully updated LED head- and taillights as standard, and a wider front bumper with chrome inserts.
  • On the interior, the Zoe dashboard borrows from the completely redesigned Clio Supermini and boasts an infotainment centre with a 9.3-inch touchscreen.
