Overview new electric LCVs: no excuse to wait

Updated on 01 August 2022

Even though they may require a more careful operational planning and some infrastructural adaptations, the latest electric vans are ticking a lot of boxes while cutting fuel and maintenance costs. Moreover, with LEZ and emission targets looming large, fleets had better start incorporating them to gain valuable experience ahead of a general roll-out. These are the e-vans that belong on your vehicle list.

Also find out how to manage, maintain and implement an integrated Commercial Fleets strategy by reliving our Fleet Week dedicated to Commercial Fleets.

Now that electric cars are about to break through, the e-wave is also building up in the LCV segment. The focus is on larger vehicles, which are particularly popular with courier companies, but the offer is expanding to the midfield.

The big challenge with vans is the reconciliation of load capacity with driving range. You can only get a big range by mounting a large battery pack, but that in turn reduces the payload. So it comes down to finding the right balance - and looking at the actual usage. It is no coincidence that many OEMs offer two battery pack sizes.

Fleet Europe has assembled all newcomers in a practical overview per segment, which will be updated regularly.
