Volvo refreshes S90 and V90, generalises 48v mild hybrid tech

Four years into its career, the Swedish flagship benefits from an aesthetic and technological rejuvenation treatment. The most striking differences pertain to the rear lights of the V90 and V90 Cross Country, which have been redesigned and now include sequential indicator lights.

Those worried about air quality can now opt for a so-called Advanced Air Cleaner with a PM2.5 particulate sensor, initially developed for the Chinese market. Should you wish so, you can have all particulate matter removed from the interior within a few minutes’ time. Volvo also introduces an inductive charge pad for smartphones as well as a leather-free option for the interior.

The mild hybrid technology introduced by the XC90 and XC60 last year can now also be had in the revamped S90 and V90 as well as on the S60 and V60 and the best-selling XC40. Volvo claims the fuel consumption and hence CO2 emissions can be reduced by up to 15% thanks to this low-level electrification, whereby a small electric motor, fed by a shoebox-sized 48V-battery, only briefly supports the combustion engine during acceleration.

The revamped S90, V90 and V90 Cross Country will be available as from summer. Further details have yet to be disclosed.
