Full-electric VW ID.Buzz Cargo is Van of the Year

Full-electric VW ID.Buzz Cargo is Van of the Year

The Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo (pictured) has been awarded the title of International Van of the Year 2023. The award was presented at the IAA Transportation fair in Hanover, Germany. What’s remarkable is that the full-electric van has received the award before it’s even available for purchase.

It’s not often that the jury, which for this 31st edition consisted of 24 trade journalists, awards the Van of the Year title – considered the highest accolade in the LCV industry – to a completely new van concept.

Visually, the ID.Buzz Cargo harks back to VW’s iconic Transporter T1 van, launched in the 1950s; but with a futuristic touch. As a zero-emission vehicle, it’s designed to have unlimited access to the growing number of cities that are implementing Low Emission Zones (LEZs).

The van features a 150-kW electric motor between the rear wheels, has a WLTP-verified range of 424 km, and can be recharged from 5% to 80% in 30 minutes. There are two to three seats in front, a load capacity of 650 kg out back, with a load volume of 3.9 m3. With a 100-kg torque, the van can easily pull a trailer.

The award-winning vehicle is also fitted with the latest in smart and connected technology, featuring over-the-air software updates, intelligent driving assistance and information systems, and more.
