Greece introduces tax breaks for electric cars

As part of its ten-year climate plan for lower carbon emissions, the Greek government has unveiled tax incentives to boost the sale of electric cars, motorcycles and bicycles.

Today, only about 0.3% of all cars on Greek roads are electric — a very low number, even compared to other European countries.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis aims for one in three new vehicles to be electric by 2030.

"We are subsidizing the purchase of new types of cars with 100 million euros for 18 months at the first stage," Mitsotakis said. "This is expected to cover 25 percent of the cost for about 14,000 new electric cars."
