Alphabet UK and NewMotion partner on EV charging

Alphabet’s UK subsidiary has announced a partnership with EV charging solutions specialist NewMotion, a member of the Shell Group. Thanks to the partnership, Alphabet customers will have access to over 2,500 public charging points in the UK, including over 800 rapid chargers.

The aim of the new partnership is precisely to provide efficient and carefree EV charging for Alphabet’s 168,000 UK customers – both at home and in the workplace. NewMotion’s solution encompasses the whole process, from consulting over installation to management.

Introductory price
For the first 90 days of the partnership, NewMotion’s smart home-charging solution will be available to Alphabet customers for a significantly reduced introductory price (£359 instead of £549). NewMotion also offers solutions and advice for corporates looking to install EV charging points at work.

Furthermore, the partnership gives Alphabet customers access to over 2,500 public charge points across the UK, including over 800 rapid chargers – all accessible via the NewMotion charge card (pictured) and app.

One invoice
The app provides real-time insight on charge tariffs, charge speeds and availability of public charge points, as well as info on the estimated range increase after a charge, or the time it takes to get to a certain charge level.

The charge cards provide fleet managers with one invoice for all power consumption, and with real-time management of the charging sessions.

“Our partnership (with Alphabet) will make EV charging easier and more accessible for lease drivers all throughout the UK,” said Alan McCleave, UK General Manager of NewMotion.

Triple-digit increase
“NewMotion brings with it over a decade of experience in home and workplace charging and coupled with our AlphaElectric expertise, businesses really are in the best hands when choosing Alphabet to electrify their fleet,” concluded Simon Carr, Chief Commercial Officer, Alphabet UK.

Despite the reduction of government grants for home EV charging installation, Alphabet UK has seen a triple-digit increase in orders for PHEVs over the last 12 months. It is to be expected that the newly-introduced Benefit-in-Kind tax rates will further encourage EV sales in the UK.
