On digital solutions at the Remarketing Village

Digitization is one of the disruptive trends in remarketing and was one of the main themes at the Remarketing Forum. During a stroll at the Remarketing Village which was organised at the Fleet Europe Summit 2022 in Dublin, we paid a visit to first-time attendees to see what they had to bring in terms of tailored solutions.

To measure the temperature of the remarketing sector, there’s nothing better than a fresh walk alongside the sponsor booths. A sector where startups are gaining ground with a novelty take on old habits, helped by smart data and software development.

Benefitting greatly from connected technology is the sector of vehicle inspection. Startup Ravin, operational all over the world, brought along a validated patent for its AI-based scanning method by mobile phone. It’s still the only player embedding the functionality of interior inspection.

The cost efficiency lies in reducing the scanning time from 45 minutes (by separate photos) to 7 minutes in a single swooping movement. Challenges ahead? “Improving the algorithm further to lift accuracy from 95 to 100% and improve on dark conditions”, says professional designer Natalia Calderon.  

Making OBD obsolete for telematics is another benefit of digitization. Of the roughly three companies with direct access to automotive OEM software is High-Mobility, with DAT as an investor. Granted access to the original platform, this tool can read the data on connected vehicles directly from the source. An asset for both B2B as B2C customers. International Business Development Manager Lucas Chmielewski: “It works currently primarily with models from German car makers, but as we grow, we expect access to more brands.”

Newcomers with a message

Other newcomers brought different news. MyWay Pro is a used car unit from the Belgian importer of the VW Group brands D’Ieteren. Active in retail, their first participation at the Summit came together with the news that they are becoming a multi-brand. Tom Ketelers of My Way Pro concludes: “Nothing changes to the rigorous checking procedure, warranty approval and home delivery option with the arrival of those new brands.”

Testing, inspection and certification expert DEKRA, which was also nominated for the Remarketing Awards, joined in for the first time with its fast battery test for corporate customers. This technology aims to accurately and quickly determine the state of health of batteries. A tool with potential if the overall process is to remain cost-effective.
